Obituary

Aidney Reeves, 89, of Livingston, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, at CHI St. Luke's Health–Memorial Livingston Hospital at 3:34 p.m.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Reeves; daughters, Frances Reeves and Peggy Crowsey; granddaughter, Rebecca Crowsey; his sister, Cecilia (Bill) Carr; and Brother, Ronnie (Juanita) Reeves. He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Agnes Reeves; his sister, Myrle (Robert) McLaurin; and his brother, John Wilburn (Sue) Reeves.

Born on August 23, 1935, in Camp Ruby, Texas, Aidney grew up in Livingston and attended local schools until his final three years of high school in Deer Park, Texas, where he graduated in 1953.

Following high school, Aidney enlisted in the United States Air Force, completing Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. His aptitude for technical work earned him selection to the prestigious Airborne Radar School at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he underwent specialized training in advanced radar systems. He served at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska as a radar systems technician, ensuring reconnaissance and weather-surveillance aircraft were mission-ready in extreme Arctic conditions. He later transferred to Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, where he took on leadership duties in the base's Morale, Wellness, and Recreation Services Program, as well as serving on the Maxwell Honor Guard. Aidney was honorably discharged after four years of service, having earned multiple commendations for technical proficiency, leadership, and operational excellence.

After military service, Aidney earned a degree in civil engineering and went on to complete a master's degree in business administration. He began his civilian career with the Alabama Highway Department as an engineer and later as a City Planner, ultimately being promoted to Civil Defense Director of Planning. Rust Engineering of Birmingham, Alabama, later recruited him to manage their planning group. He rose to Vice President of that department, overseeing operations and business development.

Aidney's career expanded into national and international leadership roles. He was recruited by Benard and Burke Engineering and Construction in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as Vice President responsible for five divisions of the company with offices in Louisiana, New York, and California. In 1979, Davey McGee Engineering and Construction, with offices in Houston, Texas, as well as in Florida, Ohio, and London, hired him as Vice President of Business Development. He later joined Brown & Root of Houston, Texas, as Vice President of Business Development, managing one of the largest engineering and construction firms in the world, with more than 100,000 employees and offices across the United States and abroad. His work took him to all 50 states and 26 foreign countries, often on behalf of the U.S. government, requiring Top Secret security clearance.

While his professional career was far-reaching, Aidney's heart was firmly rooted in Polk County, and upon retirement, he returned to his city of birth. He devoted countless hours to improving his community, serving on local boards, supporting civic and charitable causes, and mentoring others. He was active in many professional and civic organizations, including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Planning Officials, American Institute of City Planners, American Paper Institute, Association of International Pulp and Paper Industries, Urban Land Institute, University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation, University of North Carolina Pulp and Paper Foundation, Elmore County Health Board, Board of Directors of Water District in Kingwood, Original Board of Directors of the Lower Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, Board of Directors of Camp Ruby Cemetery, President of Millbrook Men's Club, and the Houston Engineering Club.

A faithful member of the Church of Christ throughout his adult life, Aidney taught Bible classes for many years, guiding students from middle school through adulthood. At home, he found joy in the simple and enduring pleasures of lifetime with family and friends, sharing stories, and tending to his beloved gardens. His yard was always a place of beauty and care, with vibrant flowers and carefully nurtured fruit trees that reflected his patience, dedication, and love for growth in all forms.

Aidney's legacy is one of service, integrity, and generosity, a life well-lived for his family, his friends, his faith, in God, people, and his community.
