Obituary

Alvin Dodd Herndon- Odyssey Hospice Caregiver, passed away to join his family and friends on November 10, 2010. He was born in Dry fork, Virginia on October 3, 1926 and was the youngest child of 12 children. He moved to Houston, Texas in the early years of 1950'. He went to work for Port Terminal Railroads on the Houston Chanel. He later married Waunita Dawn Greenwood. He had 2 step children, Wesley Dale Wilkinson and Linda Noma Strebeck. He had 2 daughters, Wanda Jane Bryan and Cathy Dawn Herndon Jensen. He retired from the Holiday Inn in the Houston Medical Center, he was their chauffer, taking patients to their treatments and to their apartments. He would kid with the patients to get their minds off of their treatments and the pain. He won many prizes and for this he won wonderful gifts and vacations. He also would bring the patients to his home to eat if they had no friends or had little money to survive. He did dearly love people and these people dearly loved him back. One man liked him so much that he gave him land in a prize area and he was given a vacation on the lake in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was also, given money. He did love his job. He retired at the age of 62 and then moved to Livingston with his wife in 1999. His son Wesley put up a 6 ft chain link fence for his father' protection and he loved him for the kind act. He was very close to his family and will be missed by them all.
