Mr. Oates was born November 1, 1931 in Cedar Bayou, Texas to parents, Arthur Bernie Oates and Myrtle Cecile (Sjolandler) Oates, and passed away December 3, 2016 in Livingston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jonell Miller; second wife, Ruby Oates; grandsons, Phillip Jess Sheppard and Kaleb K. Oates; and great granddaughter, Trinity Bell.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Oates of Livingston, Texas; son, Harold Oates and Dot of Silsbee, Texas; son, Kenneth K. Oates and Diana of Livingston, Texas; son, Bryant Sheppard and LeeAnn of Silsbee, Texas; son, Jerry Sheppard and Gayle of Fairfield, Texas; daughter, Zanna Donaho and Darren of Tustin, California; daughter, Angela Harrell and Chuck of Willis, Texas; son, Curtiss Ayres and Lisa of Porter, Texas; 17 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; siblings, James Oates and Jackie of Slidell, Louisiana, Doris Koenig and Amil of Kingwood, Texas, and Steven Oates and Phyllis of Pasadena, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers: Harold Oates, Butch Sheppard, Jerry Sheppard, Kenny Oates, Curtiss Ayres, Luke Harrell.
