Funeral services for Ashford Washington Butler, 87, of Livingston, Texas will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Rex Hendrix and Mitchell Murphy officiating. Military Honors will be provided by VFW Post #8568. Interment will follow in the Midway Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2017 in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.
Mr. Butler was born September 22, 1929 in Pinckney, Texas to parents, Jesse Lee Butler and Ramie (Bailey) Butler, and passed away on June 23, 2017 in Livingston, Texas. During his life, Ashford proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. From May 2, 1950 to August 18, 1950 in the Mediterranean. He also served in the Korean War from August 15, 1950 through November 27, 1951 participating in the capture and securing of Seoul, in Wonsan-Hungnam-Chosin campaign and operations against enemy forces in South and Central Korea. During this time, on March 1, 1952 he was promoted to Sergeant. He was awarded for his service in Korea, Navy Occupation, UN Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 19, 1952 in Quantico, Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Hazel Butler; son, Lucian Butler; sister, Reba Butler Williams; infant sister, Retha Butler; and brothers, J.L Butler, Ike Butler, Red Butler, and Elbert Butler.
He is survived by his son, Steve Butler and wife, Connie of Livingston, Texas; grandchildren, Amber and Michael Tolar, Jessica and Jeremy Slack, Ashley and Billy Moffett, Karen and Dandy Bergman, Stevie and Travis Byrd, John and Melody Davis, Steven and Heather Butler, and Jesse and Jenna Butler; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Gus, Grady, Grant, Makena, Cade, Case, Ramie, J.L, Jagger, Jep, Jaycie, Trig, Coy, Parker, Carter, Isaiah, Kale, and Rose; brother, Mitch A. Butler and wife, Grace of Onalaska, Texas; brother, Sammy Adams and wife, Carolyn of Vidor, Texas; nieces and nephews, Mitchell Butler, Jeff Butler, Liz Jenkins, Karen Watson, Melody Kellar, Beverly Butler, Carla Meadows, Tammy Payne, Retha Williams, and Martha Williams; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
