Obituary

Basil Rowell ""Sandy"" Vincent, 89 died August 7, 2010 at his home in Riverside, Texas, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on September 27, 1920 in Mt. Zion Edmonson County, Kentucky. He was the last surviving child of Squire Lewis Vincent' and Emma Cordelia Wolfe Vincent' nine children.

While serving in the US Army in 1939, he met and married Hazel Kiper Vincent of McDaniels, Kentucky. The couple later settled in Louisville, Kentucky, where he became very active in Republican politics. In 1950, he moved his family to Houston, Texas, where he was employed and served in management with Armco Steel. After retiring in 1967 he moved to Onalaska, Texas, and began his new career in real estate development. Lake Livingston was being built at the time and he was an integral part helping to develop the areas surrounding the lake in many and varied commercial and residential real estate ventures. Mr. Vincent had been a member of the Onalaska School Board and Chambers of Commerce along with many other civic organizations.

He devoted his life to his family, both immediate and extended. He never forgot his Kentucky roots, traveling numerous times a year to Edmonson County for reunions and extended visits.

Sandy Vincent is survived by his wife of 71 years, Hazel, his two sons and their families: Randell and Sayrah Vincent and Howard Vincent and Douglas Warman of Riverside, Texas, his granddaughter, Georgia Kay and husband, Stuart Leitch and their daughter, Joanna Leitch, of Murphy, Texas and his grandson, Randell Vincent, Jr. and wife, Cynthia and their children, Katie and Nick of Riverside. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 am Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Cochran Funeral Home in Onalaska, Texas with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am the same day with Rev. Jim Newton officiating. Pallbearers will be Martin Katz, D.R. Vincent, Justin Vincent, Kenton Vincent, Christopher Thompson, Michael Thomas Randlett and Nicholas Gordy.

In lieu of flowers, the Vincent family requests that donations be made in Mr. Vincent' name to the Boys and Girls Club of Livingston.
