Interment will follow in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held Friday, December 27, 2019, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., before the service, in the First United Methodist Church.
Phyllis Beauchamp Stephens Dabney passed away peacefully on December 16, 2019 with her family at her side. She was 91 years of age. Bea was born January 2, 1928 in Pineville, Louisiana to Hulet Preston Stephens and Alice Scarborough Stephens.
Mrs. Dabney is a graduate of Bolton High School in Alexandria, Louisiana, Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now Louisiana Tech University) and Touro Infirmary in New Orleans where she completed her training as a Registered Nurse. It was while attending Touro that she met Joe Dabney, a medical student at Tulane University. They married in 1948 and soon thereafter moved to Joe's hometown of Livingston where they together set up a medical practice that served the community for the next thirty-five years. Soon after the practice was established, she decided to take on the hardest job of all, that of full-time mom.
She was a dedicated volunteer in many capacities involving children, school, church, hospital and community. She could easily preside over a PTA meeting, a Cub Scout den meeting and work in the concession stand at a little league game, all in the same day. And she would make it all fun for everyone involved. She always looked on the bright side and lived her life with optimism, positivity, humor and lots of love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Dr. J.T. Dabney, Jr., and her sisters Margaret Stephens Burley and Hulette Stephens Shuford. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Joe and Jan Dabney, Mike and Susan Dabney; grandchildren Paul Dabney, Alice Dabney Butler and husband Ken and children Anna, Avie, and Kolt Butler, and great-granddaughter, Millie Bea Butler. She is also survived by her much-loved nieces, nephews, caregivers, and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer's Association.
