Obituary

Bennie Blanche Hendrix Sanders passed from this life on Saturday, January 9, 2016. She was the last living child of "Uncle Jose and Aunt Pearl" Hendrix, who lived in Big Sandy nearly a century ago.

She was born on November 6, 1932 to Josiah Elias Hendrix and Pearl Bailey Hendrix. She was the youngest of nine children. She grew up in the Dallardsville/BigSandy community in Polk County, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers TJ, Hobby, Nathan, Elton; sisters Zelma, Lola Mae, Juanita, and Margaret. She was also preceded in death by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws.

Bennie married H.L. Sanders in 1948, and together they had four children - Randall, Keith, Troy, and Dwana. They made their residence in Baytown, Texas, where H.L. worked for Exxon for 39 years. She was active at Trinity Assembly in Baytown for more than 50 years, and later attended Victory Temple in Baytown. Bennie worked for Sears for almost 20 years and also worked for her son's business, Randall's Home Healthcare.

She is survived by her husband, children, sister-in-law Merle Graves of Fort Worth, daughters-in-law Nancy Sanders and Tina Sanders, grandchildren Tyson Sanders and wife Laura, Jill Sanders, James Sanders, Zachary Bates and wife Brittney, Kayli Carroll and husband Brett, and Cody Sanders; great-grandchildren Keira Sanders and Ava Carroll, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bennie was well connected with her church family and the community. She was a loving wife and mother, and an outstanding cook. She was a self-appointed supervisor of all of our projects. She also lived by the adage "if you don't have something good to say, don't say it." She was a tremendous confidant and was full of love for others. She had a quiet resolve and truly had a servant's heart. She left a great legacy and will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 PM at Navarre Funeral Home, and the funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 AM at Trinity Assembly at 1008 E Lobit, Baytown, with the Rev. Gerald Dickerson officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 3 PM at Big Sandy cemetery, and a memorial service will follow at the Big Sandy Community Church at 3:30. The service will be officiated by Lynn and Flynn Hendrix.
