Bessie, lovingly known to many as Mom, Nanny B, and friend, went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2026, at the age of 88.

Bessie was born on April 10, 1938, in Livingston, Texas, to Kale and Annie Mae Davis. She grew up in the Camp Ruby community and graduated from Big Sandy High School, where she was known as an outstanding basketball player. She carried that same spirited determination throughout her life.

She married John Robert Pruett Sr. in 1955 and made their home in Camden, Texas. After his passing in 1960, she returned to the Camp Ruby area, where she lived until marrying Kenneth Lamb in 1965. Together they built a life in the Pasadena and La Porte areas until Kenneth’s retirement, when they returned home to Polk County. Bessie spent her later years in the Center Grove community, where she remained until her passing.

Bessie was a devoted Christian and faithfully attended Sunflower Baptist Church alongside Kenneth until her health no longer allowed her to attend in person. She loved old hymns, a love reflected in the songs chosen to honor her life today.

She was a homemaker for most of her adult life and devoted herself to caring for her family. Bessie had a personality all her own — quick-witted, playful, and never afraid to poke fun at those she loved. More importantly, she made sure everyone laughed along with her. Her family now realizes just how special and unique she truly was.

Bessie was blessed to remain in her home independently until February of this year, something she valued greatly.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Ronald Cox, and Stacey and Kenneth Bravenec; her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Karen Lamb; her brother and sister-in-law, Ricky and Lux Davis; sisters-in-law Vickey Davis and Margaret Dubois and Ruth Hannah; grandchildren Mandy, Dustin, John, Kalen, Annie, Lilly, Liz, Jay Tyler, Noah, Aaron, Brooke, Chris, David, and Robin; along with numerous great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kale and Annie Mae Davis; her husbands, John Robert Pruett Sr. and Kenneth Lamb; her son, John Robert Pruett Jr. (Bob) her grandson, Andrew Kelly; her brothers, Kale Bryant Davis, Luther Mur Davis, and John Davis; and her sister, Myrlie Willson.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace with her Lord and reunited with those who went before her. Her laughter, strength, and love for family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
