Betty Jane Smith was born to Virgil Turner and Vera Mae Turner on March 25, 1939 in Lufkin, Texas. On September 5, 2015, she gained her angel wings after a courageous and gracious battle with ovarian cancer surrounded by family and friends.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James Terry Smith, her mother Vera Mae Turner, father Virgil Turner, sister Jeane Williams, and her three beautiful angels Brandon, Monica and Erica Conklin.
Betty is survived by her sister Mary Francis Bush, brother Vernon "Jack" Turner, daughters Charlene McKinney and husband Steve Medina, Sherry Smith Huff and husband Edward, son James Timothy Smith and wife Elizabeth. Betty was also blessed with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Betty retired from the Deer Park I.S.D. as a Teacher's Aide to special needs children in 1988. After she and Terry retired, they enjoyed many years of travel with their motor coach family and friends while still managing to "cruise" with their car club The Piney Woods Cruisers. Betty's baby, the "fire engine red 1951 Chevrolet" will lead our procession to the cemetery.
Betty has been a long time member of the Central Baptist Church and cherished her church and church family both at Central and First Baptist Church in Pasadena where she taught Sunday School for many years while also mentoring many young women through the AcTeens group
Please join the Smith Family at Central Baptist Church for fellowship and lunch after the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Baptist Church and Gentiva Hospice in Betty's name.
