Funeral services for Billie Jean Taylor Hickman, 89, of Leggett, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019 in the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas with Mike Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019 in the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.
Mrs. Hickman was born March 5, 1930 in Schwab City, Texas to parents, William Lee Taylor and Viola Mae (Murphy) Taylor, and passed away September 3, 2019 in Livingston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmie Mildon Hickman; and granddaughter, Kendal Laird Martin.
Mrs. Hickman graduated from Livingston High School in 1947. After graduation, she moved to Houston. While attending business school, she worked at the Second National Bank. She also worked for United Gas and as a secretary for Senator Collins. She met and married Jimmie M. Hickman of Leggett and they had four children. After her children were grown, she began working and volunteering at Leggett Independent School District where she was known for her cooking. Her cakes and pies were sought after at the Leggett Hospitality Room for basketball tournaments and the cake walks during fall festivities. She loved her family and friends. She was very involved in her children's activities and she never missed a school event or milestone in their lives.
She is survived by her sons, Roland Hickman and Lisa of Leggett, Jimmy Hickman and wife, Bonnie of Livingston; daughters, Shelia Hickman-Laird and husband, Darrell of Leggett, Tammy Hickman-Conner and husband, Rick of Diboll; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Taylor and wife, Barbara; sister, Leola Camp and husband, Howard; brother-in-law, Val D. Hickman; and sister-in-law, Doris Hickman-Harris; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
