Obituary

A memorial service for Blake Ashton Thornton, 21, of Big Spring, Texas will be held Monday, September 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Onalaska, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Blake was born January 29, 2003 in Tomball, Texas to parents, Bryan and Rebecca (Thornton) DuBose, and passed away August 29, 2024 in Big Spring, Texas. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Bobbye DuBose.

Blake grew up in Magnolia, Texas, attending Magnolia West High School until his senior year, where he was involved in band, playing the trombone. He attended New Hope Baptist Church, where he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized.   His senior year he attended and graduated from Onalaska High School, where he continued to play the trombone in the band and was involved in ROTC.

He was a loving young man that brought warmth to the room with a big smile that was a window to a bigger heart that was eager to help and please those around him.  His hugs were as big as his heart and his smile.  His goofy laugh would bring a smile to your face and drive you crazy at the same time.  He loved big, all those around him.  He would not hesitate to be there for anyone especially the more mature and kids.

Blake had a passion for video games and firearms which was apparent to anyone who would lend him their ear for an update on the latest gaming adventure or the latest thing he learned about firearms or his latest upgrade to his firearm collection.

He was also an adventurer.  Always looking for trees or rocks to climb as high as he could and give us anxiety with his lack of fear or kayak halfway across the lake just because someone said it was too far. He is free from the struggles life affords us all and sitting with Jesus and Mimi and all the others gone on before him.

Blake is survived by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Brady DuBose and Lydia; sister and brother-in-law, Morgan McDowell and Troy; brother and sister-in-law, Bailey DuBose and Rachael; sister, Karissa DuBose; grandparents, Roger and Lois Thornton; grandfather, Aubrey DuBose and wife Charlette; niece, Renli; nephew, Rhett; nephew on the way, Jaxon; and aunts, Tricia Simmons and Dawn Ringstaff; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
