Bradley Kenzell Johnson (B. K.), of Leggett, Texas, was born on December 24, 1932 to Felix and Ethel Johnson in Duncan, Oklahoma. He passed from this world to his eternal resting place on June 7, 2015. He is survived by his cherished wife of 36 years, Lorena Mae Stuckey Johnson; daughters, Mary Beth Ledet and husband, Todd, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Missy Chapman and husband, Beauford, of Bedias; son, Michael Allen Johnson and wife, Debbie of Round Rock; and grandchildren, Connor and Cristen Ledet, Alyssa and Adriana Chapman, and Michael Allen Johnson, Jr. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from his six brothers and one sister that have all passed before him.
B.K. served in numerous capacities and was recognized as an influential leader throughout his life and career. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having joined the United States Army in 1949 and discharged honorably in December 1952. He joined the Houston Police Department in 1953 as a clerk, then attended Class #10 of the Houston Police Academy, graduating in February 1954. He served the Houston Police Department for 32 years and retired in March 1985. He most notably served as Chief of Police of the Houston Police Department from March 1980 to January 1982. His permanent rank in Civil Service was Assistant Chief of Police. After his first retirement, he served from 1987-1988 as an Investigator with the Polk County District Attorney's Office when the office was first established. In 1989, he became the City Manager of Corrigan, Texas and served in this position until May 2001, whereupon he completed his second retirement.
He was a member and Deacon of the Jones Prairie Baptist Church in Leggett. He was a Scottish Rite 33 rd Degree Mason, a member of the York Rite Bodies of Masonry; and an honorary member of the DeMolay Bodies. He was a member of the Oak Forest Lodge in Houston and Trinity Lodge #14 in Livingston. He was also a member of Eastern Star with his wife, Lorena Mae, Shepherd Chapter 1003 in Shepherd, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Burial services will follow at Jones Prairie Cemetery, Leggett. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Cochran Funeral Home.
