Obituary
Funeral services for Calvin Jones, 70, of Leggett, Texas, will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Lesly Wilkinson officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Jones Prairie Cemetery in Leggett, Texas. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.
Mr. Jones was born January 6, 1945 in Livingston, Texas to parents, Calvin Lytell Jones Sr. and Gertrude (Coyle) Jones, and passed away June 8, 2015 in Livingston, Texas. During his life, Calvin attended Sam Houston State University and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He loved his community and served as a civil servant for many years, including being a member of the Corrigan Buyer's Committee, served as the President on the Corrigan School Board for 6 years, served on the Polk County Appraisal Board and the Polk County Appraisal Review Board. In addition, Calvin was a member of the Houston Fire Department for 25 years and served as the Fire Chief of the Corrigan Fire Department for several years. He was a life member of the VFW Post #8568 and was a member of their Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Trinity Masonic Lodge #14 AF & AM and a retired rancher and hunter. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 46 ½ years, Nelda Jones of Leggett, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Sean Burks of Corrigan, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Brian Lawson of Corrigan, Texas; grandchildren, Kathryn Burks, Calvin Burks, William Lawson, and Jesse Lawson; along with numerous other family and friends.
