A Celebration of Life for Charles R Franklin Jr. will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 3:00 pm at The Woodlands First Baptist Church, South campus at 11801 Grogans Mill Road. On May 24, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Bluff Creek Cemetery, there will be a graveside service to bury his ashes.
Charles Rupert Franklin Jr. passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at his home in The Woodlands, Texas, with his loving wife, Gloria J. Johnson, of 59 years by his side. He was born on July 31, 1949, in Livingston, Texas, to Charles Rupert Franklin Sr. and Nell Pittman Franklin.
Charles grew up in Livingston and graduated from Livingston High School with the Class of 1967. A lifelong seeker of knowledge and adventure, his curiosity began early through Cub Scouts, where his mother served as a leader before Charles later became a leader himself.
He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. His career led him through surveying, engineering, and international work with Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where he served as both an engineer and project management specialist. His final asignment with Aramco was as a member of a special unit tasked with the development of a philanthropic foundation for King Abdul. After retiring and returning home to Texas, Charles opened Franklin Consulting & Associates working with Livingston Surveying & Mapping as a client.
Charles had a remarkable gift for languages, speaking four fluently and reading and writing in thirteen. His travels and love of learning inspired a lifelong collection of recipes and stories, both of which he delighted in sharing with family and friends through cooking and conversation. A passionate lover of history, Charles especially enjoyed reconnecting with classmates and preserving memories of his hometown. Alongside fellow classmates, he helped establish and served as an administrator for the Facebook page, “Growing Up in Livingston, TX I Remember…”
Above all else, Charles considered his faith and relationship with Jesus Christ to be his greatest blessing. He was a devoted member of The Woodlands First Baptist Church, where he faithfully participated in the choir and found great joy in worship and fellowship. Charles was known for his kindness, wisdom, willingness to help others, and his joy in sharing knowledge with those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
