Graveside services for Charlie James Hogue Jr., 94, of Houston, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020 in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Livingston, Texas with Rev. Ted Schwank officiating. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #8568.Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2020 in the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.
Charlie passed away October 28, 2020 in Houston, Texas, from complications of a stroke and a fall. He was born February 4, 1926 in Leggett, Texas. He attended school in Livingston, Jeff Davis H.S. in Houston, then joined the United States Navy during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater, aboard the USS DOBBIN and USS WADLEIGH, as Seaman 1st Class/Fire Controlman. After the war, attended Sam Houston State University for a while, before attending plumbing school in Houston. He married Peggy Burton-Hogue, and they returned to Livingston and operated C.J. Hogue Plumbing Company, with his father for many years. Later, he worked for the Sam P. Wallace Company, Blount Bros. Construction, Way Engineering, and his favorite job, Hart Plumbing Co. for 17 years, before retiring at age, 75. He also owned 2 steel fabrication businesses and rental properties. In his younger days, Charlie enjoyed deer hunting in Livingston and Polk County with his favorite hunting hounds, Troubadour and Dyna. Charlie was a life member of VFW Post #8568 in Livingston, Texas. He was a Christian man, reading his Bible and praying daily and attended over the years both Central Baptist Church in Livingston and White Oak Baptist Church in Houston. Daddy, we would like to thank you for the personal sacrifices you made for your family, for being a good husband for our mother, and being a good example of a father for us to follow. May Jesus bless you and keep you in Heaven, until we meet again.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie James Hogue Sr. and Valda (Collier) Hogue; sister, Wanda Justice; and grandson, William K. Neeley III. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy (Burton) Hogue; sons, Charlie James "Chuck" Hogue III., Chris M. Hogue and wife, Melanie, and Patrick Hogue; grandchildren, Amanda Hogue-MacDonald and husband, Erik, Charlie James "C.J." Hogue IV. and wife, Valeria, Christopher M. Hogue Jr., and Jonathan W. Hogue; great-grandson, Liam MacDonald; sisters, Hilda Hogue-Simmons and husband, Charles, and Drusilla Hogue; and daughter-in-law, Debra Hogue; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Charlie's name.
