Graveside services for John Charlie Smith, 92, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. Rose Cemetery in Livingston, Texas with Father Tarsisius Puling, SVD officiating. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m., in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Livingston, Texas.
Mr. Smith was born February 25, 1928 in Livingston, to Laud Wick Howe Smith and Minnie Ann (Hall) Smith, and died on December 11, 2020 in Livingston. Charlie will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted caregiver to his wife, Abbie, for many years. Over the years, he was an avid gardener, inventor, tinkerer, storyteller, and hardworking businessman. He operated J.C. Smith & Sons Sand and Gravel for over 50 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Abbie Smith, granddaughter, Amanda Elizabeth Smith, and twelve brothers and sisters, including twin brother, Carlie J. Smith.
He is survived by his five children; daughter, Sharon Choens and husband Robert of Houston; daughter, Dr. Charlene Smith and husband Thomas of Livingston; daughter, Christine Teel and husband Dwayne of Livingston; son, John Charlie Smith Jr. and wife Mabelle of Livingston; son, Mark David Smith, Sr. and wife Crystal of Livingston; grandchildren, Mark David Smith Jr. and wife Melissa, Dr. Stacy Victoria Smith-Haynes and husband Joseph, Dr. Robert Charles Choens II and wife Megan, Trenton W. Smith, Dalton Smith and wife, Rachel, Kevin Smith, Dana Smith, Orren Smith, Kelci Teel, and Jacob Cheney; great-grandchildren Emma Smith, Savannah Smith, and Wilder Haynes; step-great-grandchildren, Esaias Cheney, Mason Smith, and Brantley Smith; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers are grandsons and former employees of J.C. Smith & Sons Sand and Gravel.
The family extends a special thank-you to Wright Sisters: Debra, Rose, Grace, and Betty, Dr. Anita Kuruvilla, and TheraCare Home Health.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund.
