He is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Deborah Compton Stephens; his sons, Martin Edward Stephens of Shepherd, Texas, Waco Compton and wife, Elizabeth of Livingston, Texas, and Butch Compton of Denver, Colorado; his daughters, Tina Stephens Hearren and husband, Louis of Livingston, Texas and Pamela Compton of Livingston, Texas; sister, Earline Stephens McLeod of Livingston, Texas; brother, Bobby Stephens of Livingston, Texas; brother-in-law, Dale Till of Elkhart, Texas; and grandsons, Eric Stephens and wife, Aleashia, Ryan McGarrahan, Dylan Compton, Joey Hearren; and granddaughters, Jessica McGarrahan and fiancé, Colton Quintana, Shannon Compton, Steffani Moser, Heather Stephens Randall; along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Charlie loved his family and always enjoyed spending time with them and joking with everyone, especially his grands and great grands. He enjoyed hunting and fishing; many trips were made to Lake Tawakoni to catch catfish. In his younger years, he loved going on trail rides with all his friends. After retirement, he became involved in the Polk County Youth Rodeo Association as a volunteer and served on the Board of Directors. He spent many, many hours at the arena working on different projects and improvements. He loved watching his granddaughter, Jessica, and later, his great-grandchildren and all the other participants ride and compete to improve their riding skills. He considered all the members of the Association his extended family.
In his younger years, we worked for several telephone companies as a lineman. His best years working were as a Trailways bus driver, driving tour buses and the regular bus route from Houston to Shreveport. After retiring from bus driving, he worked for several pipeline companies as a pipeline inspector and also hauling heavy equipment all over the U.S.
Charlie lived his life to the fullest and always his way.
