Obituary

Christine Handley Dugger, 89, from Corrigan, Texas passed away on Saturday June 3, 2017, from complications related to several hospital stays in Spring, Texas. She died early in the morning in a rehabilitation facility just unable to regain her strength. She leaves behind her son Richard Dugger and wife Evelyn; daughter Linda Langlois and husband Bill; grandson Jeremy Langlois, and granddaughters Katherine Dugger, Julie Dugger, Brittany Arrendondo, Danielle Langlois; three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. The eleventh of twelve children of Dr. Finas Burr Handley and Ida Matthews Handley, she was preceded in death by both parents as well as brothers Lester, Melvin, John Evan "Hump", Douglas "Pie," Tom, F.B. "Billy" Jr. and Feagin Handley as well as sisters Hortie Lee Hargrove, Mary Helen Rhodes and Hazel Powell. She was also preceded in death by her spouse, Hollis Dugger in 2008. Born in the Hortense community of Polk County, she developed a unique sense of humor from corny family members that loved to give everyone nicknames such as "Hump" and "Pie." She took her unique sense of humor to Sam Houston State University, graduating with a business degree and then eventually moving to Houston to obtain employment. There she met and married Hollis, and they raised their family in northwest Houston. Once their children were grown, she moved back to Polk County, this time to Corrigan, Texas, where Christine slowly became reacquainted with the slower pace of a small town. Once Hollis died, facing the prospect of taking care of a house and a big yard by herself, she moved to Paradise Springs Independent Living to be closer to her daughter in Spring, Texas and lived there for most of the last eight years. The community of Corrigan and her independent living community in Spring will miss her sense of humor. At Christine's request, there will be no public service. Her cremains will be buried in Feagan Cemetery very close to her birthplace in Hortense in a private goodbye with Richard and Linda and other immediate family members. It is requested that no flowers or donations be sent, but friends are welcome to send condolences to R. Dugger, 1100 Broadway, Kilgore, TX 75662, and they will be forwarded to family members .
