Coach passed away peacefully on December 11, 2020 at Marshall Manor Hospice in Marshall, Texas. He was born February 7, 1946 in Livingston, Texas to the late J.F. Malone and the late Mamie Simmons Malone. He was a graduate of Gaston High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. He was also an Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He married Nancy Sue Sipes on December 20, 1968. Coach had a nearly forty year career in education as a teacher and coach, where he impacted thousands of young lives in the classroom and on the field. He loved his players like family and forged lifelong friendships with them even after their playing days. In the latter part of his career, he relished being able to pass down the wisdom and knowledge he had gained throughout his career. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sue, after 36 years of marriage.
Coach is survived by his son, Kevin Malone and wife, Susan Malone of Henderson, Texas; grandsons (his pride and joy), Eli and Ryne Malone of Henderson, Texas; brother, John Malone of Henderson, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends, former students and players.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Carlisle Indian Athletic Booster Club or the Henderson Lions Athletic Booster Club.
The man may die but the legend lives on forever.
