Obituary

David Lynn Burns 67, of Livingston, Texas passed away September 11, 2023 at his beloved ranch.

David was born November 1, 1955 in Livingston, Texas.  David graduated from Livingston High School in 1973 and continued his studies at Sam Houston State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. After graduating college, David married his first wife Karen with whom he welcomed 3 children. David made his way back to his hometown Livingston and continued to raise his family.

David married his now wife Melinda Burns on October 30, 1999 in Hawaii.  From their union he welcomed 3 additional children to his family.  David was a man with a huge heart and was loved by all.  He started numerous successful businesses throughout his life employing many young men and women of Polk County.  He served on the Farm Bureau Board and was an active member of the Livingston Chamber of Commerce. Those who were close to David knew the love he had for auctioneering. He was fortunate enough to spend his final years running Live Action Auctions where he was able to do exactly what he loved. David was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and all-around outdoorsman. With all his many projects and adventures David proved to be an amazing husband, dad, friend and the best PawPaw ever to his 12 grandchildren.

David left behind a family that continues to love him deeply. His wife of 23 years, Melinda Burns, his 6 children, daughter, Gillian Carr and husband Jason of Cypress, Texas; son, Cody Burns and wife Jennifer of Cypress, Texas; daughter, Callie Campbell and husband Shaine of Brookeland, Texas; daughter, Erin Barnes and husband Jeremiah of Livingston, Texas; daughter, Gwen Walraven of Richardson, Texas; and son Lieutenant Colonel Eric Walraven, USMC and wife Tiffany of Stuttgart, Germany; grandchildren, Aubrey Barnes, Addison Barnes, Ella Carr, Cody (Dub) Burns, Ava Carr, Brody Barnes, Maximus Burns, Zoey Campbell, Brooks Campbell, Ryder Carr, Inka Carr, and Hamilton Walraven; brothers Terry Burns and wife Terry Sue of Livingston, Texas; Steven Burns and wife Tina of Irving, Texas; niece, Peyton Murphy and husband James; and nephew, Decil Burns of Livingston, Texas.

David was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucille Harrod; his father, David Burns; and his mother and stepfather Nina Snook and Olan.
