Obituary

Funeral services for Dicki Lou Alston, 72, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Livingston, Texas with Rev. Steve Woody, Dr. Don Willis, and Rev. James Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Livingston, Texas.

Dicki Lou Alston was born on September 29, 1946, in Houston, Texas to Verna Jones and John Alston. She died peacefully on November 30, 2018, at her home in Livingston, Texas. Dicki was preceded in death by both of her parents.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Libby and James Gibson of Huntsville, Texas; niece Elizabeth Alston Morgan and husband, Drew, and niece, Nena Beatrice Metcalf and husband, Tallan; great nephews, Marshall Gibson Morgan and Barrett James Metcalf and great niece, Molly Elizabeth Morgan; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Dicki began her scholastic career in Ms. Dotsie Gerlach's kindergarten class and graduated from Livingston High School as part of the infamous Class of '65. She continued to further her education by obtaining Bachelors and Masters degrees at both Texas Tech University and Sam Houston
State University. While attending Texas Tech she was an active member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Throughout her teaching career, Dicki taught in a number of school districts including Corrigan, Victoria and Huntsville. During that time she sponsored several tour groups for students to Europe.  Her passion as many will remember was history and politics but not above God and family. Later, she became a curriculum director/facilitator in both Lufkin and Beaumont school districts. After 35 plus years in education, she retired and returned to her beloved hometown of Livingston. Dicki was active in a number of groups and organizations including the First United Methodist Church, Robert
Rankin Chapter NSDAR, Polk County Museum, Moscow on the Go, Moscow Cemetery and the Polk County Historical Society.

Pallbearers include Hank Alston, Mike Dabney, "Little" Fred Grube, George Harrell, Joey Pedigo, Judson Pritchard, Ditz Rabel and Byron Warren. Honorary pallbearers include Johnny Epstein, Bro. James Frazier, Barry Ogletree, members of the Senior Class of 1965, the Polk County Historical
Society, and the Robert Rankin Chapter NSDAR.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Livingston, the Moscow Cemetery Fund, and the Livingston Green and White Scholarship fund.
