Obituary

Dolores V. Snead, 91 of Livingston, Texas passed away Friday, November 8th, 2013, at Tall Pines Assisted Living Center in Livingston, Texas.

Dolores was born January 3, 1922, the daughter of Joseph Simon Sr. and Helen (Duggan) Simon in Thompson, North Dakota. She was raised and educated in Thompson and attended Mayville ND State College.

Dolores enlisted in the military on May 26, 1944, serving with the United States Navy. She took her basic training at NTS, Bronx New York, attended school for 8 weeks at NTS, Stillwater, Oklahoma, and was then assigned to Armed Guard Center (Pacific) on Treasure Island, San Francisco, California – where she served in meritorious service performed as legal yeoman. Dolores was honorably discharged on August 1, 1946 with the rank of Yeoman 1st Class.

It was in the Navy that Dolores met her husband, Harry J. Snead at Treasure Island, San Francisco, California where they were both stationed. Harry and Dolores were married on August 26, 1946 after their discharge from the Navy. They moved to Houston, Texas where Harry was employed by the City of Houston and Dolores was employed by United States Railroad Retirement Board. Harry and Dolores were avid fishers and loved spending time at Port Isabel and various lakes around the country. After retirement, they moved to rural Livingston where they raised cattle until Harry's death in 1989. Dolores remained in their home until moving to Tall Pines in June 2013.

Dolores was active in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and was in the Volunteer Auxiliary at Livingston Memorial Hospital.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen Simon, husband, Harry Snead, brother, James R. Simon, and sisters, June Simon and Joanne Noreen. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Simon, Jr. and wife Sue of Thompson, ND; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Donna Dittfurth, Allison Dittfurth- (Houston, Texas), Kyle, Robin & Knox Dittfurth (Weatherford, TX); nieces and nephews, Lynette and Kent Nygaard (Colorado Springs, CO), Kay Hallen (Sydney, Australia), Larry Simon and Cynthia Craig (East Lansing, MI), Tina & Skip Ruis (Stanchfield, MN), Charlie Noreen and Casey Noreen (Grand Forks, ND); great-nieces and nephews, Jamie Hallen, Alexandra Hallen, & Jesse Hallen (Sydney, Australia), Joseph Simon (Milwaukee, WI), Camilla Simon (Nashville, TN), Nathanael Putbrese & Max Putbrese (Cambridge, MN), Kaitlyn Noreen (Grand Forks, ND), Alexis Noreen (Plymouth, MN), Conner Noreen (Grand Forks, ND), extended family, and a host of very special friends.

Services are as follows:

Rosary/Visitation – Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 6:00 PM (Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, Texas)
Funeral Mass – Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM (St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Livingston, Texas)
Burial – Friday, November 15, 2013 at 2:15 PM (Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Texas)
