Obituary

Memorial services for Don Ballard, 78, of Onalaska, Texas, will be held at 11:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2019 in the Pine Forest Baptist Church in Onalaska, Texas with Rev. Sean Ferry officiating.

William Don Ballard, known as Don to family and friends, was called home by the Lord on September 1, 2019. He was born March 9, 1941 in Benton, Arkansas. In 1952, his family relocated to the Houston Area. After graduating from Sam Houston High School in 1959, Don joined the United States Army and completed 4 years of dedicated service. In 1968, he began his career with Brown and Root where he stayed until his retirement in 1998 after 30 years. In 2000, after a short retirement, Don began a career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice serving as a prison guard in the Polunski Unit in Livingston. He retired again in 2015 after 15 years.

Don will be remembered by his caring and talkative personality. Don had many things in the life that he loved, he had love his church, fishing, western novels, and the Dallas Cowboys, but his greatest love of all was his wife of 54 years, Grace Ballard.

He is survived by Grace; his son, Wesley; grandchildren, Wesley, Mady, and Ian; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Logan; and his sister, Margaret. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Hubert and Ruby Gerine, and his sister, Jane.
