Don was born into the ranching lifestyle, loved the outdoors and was a great horseman; he had a way with horses only a few are blessed with. He was avid hunter and fishermen, sometimes using unconventional methods, if you knew him, you know what that means.
The drought of the 50' forced Don out of ranching and into the oilfield around Midland and Odessa. He worked many years as a livestock order buyer mostly around West Texas and Oklahoma. In the early 70' he was a salesman for a western tack company where his knowledge of ranching and his natural born ability as a salesman allowed him to set many company records. From the middle 70' to date he worked with several oil service companies and ventures of his own.
While working for OTC Petroleum Don met and married Patricia Cramer in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and were married for 30 years and they made their home in Livingston, TX in 1982.
He formed Cox Oil Field Rental and Service Company in 1983 and operated until his retirement in 1993. He then formed Cox Land and Brush clearing in 2000 until health problems forced him into retirement once again in 2004.
He remained active in business with Cox Equipment Sales and Service until his death.
He loved kids and his door was always open to anyone in need. He had a unique sense of humor. He was truly one of a kind, the last of a dying breed and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
