Doris spent her childhood Baytown and Segno, Texas.  In her teen years she moved to Cleveland, TX.  She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1951.

She attended University of Houston for one year and was a Music Major, studying voice.  She met Byron Hines on a bus headed to Houston a year later.  Doris and Byron were married in Cleveland, TX on December 27, 1953.  Since dad was serving in the US Air Force, they had the opportunity to live in Sacramento, CA, Oklahoma City, OK, Houston Texas, and League City Texas. Mom worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone until she had children.  She and dad were members and involved in churches in Sacramento and League City, and were Charter members of a mission church, Texas Avenue Baptist.  She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School and was the pre-school children's choir director.  In 1974 she and dad opened a Radio Shack franchise, Hines Electronics, and she ran the business operations.  Mom and dad moved the family to Livingston in 1977. They were in business in Livingston for over 30 years.  After retiring from business, she became active in singing in the church choir at Central Baptist Church in Livingston, and sang in the choir until she was 85 years old!

In 2019 she moved to Tall Pines Assisted Livingston after dad's passing, and lived there for three and a half years. She became a resident at Pine Ridge Nursing home her last year of life after challenging health issues.  Mom passed peacefully at a Woodlands hospital on March 19, surrounded by her three daughters.

Mom loved singing, gardening, cooking and sewing.  She and dad loved Gospel music and traveled to many concerts and National Quartet Conventions.  She loved her family and her friends, and she was a woman of deep faith.  Mom always had a song in her heart, and she was always singing, humming or whistling a song she was thinking about.

The family would like to thank Tall Pines Assisted Living and Pine Ridge Nursing Home for their excellent care of mom.

Pallbearers: Ralls Lee, Ron Graves, Kaleb McLaurin, Braden Graves, Heston Graves, and Cullen Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Central Baptist Church Music Ministery.
