Obituary

Graveside services for Doris Jean "Dusty" Peebles, 92, of Livingston, Texas, will be Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Livingston, Texas.  Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Sunday, April 18, 2021 at the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas. The family plans to have a Celebration of Life event in Livingston to be scheduled in the near future.

Mrs. Peebles was born January 19, 1929 in Corrigan, Texas to parents George Thomas and Pearl Jones Thomas and passed away April 9, 2021 in Livingston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Pete Peebles. Pete and Dusty were married for 53 years until Pete passed away in 2003.

Dusty was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church and an active devoted member of the Pilot Club for 58 years until her death. She was known for selling the Pilot Club calendars and helping with the club's annual Sunday dinner held near Thanksgiving. Dusty retired from the Texas Department of Human Services at age 65. She enjoyed travels to different parts of the world with her son and daughter-in-law, and enjoyed her RV trips with Pete especially to Nashville and other places with her fellow RV travelers. And she definitely enjoyed her cup of coffee and Godiva chocolates! Dusty was also an avid sports fan and loved following the Texans and the Baylor Bears.

Dusty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Peebles and Kay Day of Ft. Worth, Texas and her "granddog," Sugar; cousin and life-long friend Wilma Joyce Roberds formerly of Port Arthur presently residing in Colorado Springs, cousins Johnny Green of Montgomery, Bill Green, Linda Kay Jones Conway of Kerrville, Donnie Jones of Austin, TX, Jesse Ray Jones of Bismarck, MO, Wallace Dean Mouton of Kirbyville and Alvis Woods Mouton of Nederland; also Pete's surviving nieces and nephews including Mary Peebles Clymer and Pat Peebles of Livingston, Rick Peebles of Baytown, Alene Holder of Livingston, Jimmy Monroe of Livingston, Donna Wiegreffe of Livingston, John and Joe Haynes of Livingston, David Haynes of Livingston, Frances McAlister of Liberty, Steve Eppes of Kountze, Julianne Prochaska of Houston, Marilyn Hodge of Dallas; and her extended family nieces and nephews Monica Harris Adams and Larry, Sara Coble, Cheryl and Greg Kisver and children, Brady and Chase Kisver, Debbie Barnett, Jon Barnett, Johnny Barnett and son, Trevor, along with a host of other family and friends including her regular lunch group of Alene Holder, Faylene Haynes, Joyce Agan, Jewel Richardson and Fay Baker.

Pallbearers are Corky Cochran, Danny Moseley, Brad Roberds, Garvey Jackson, Steve Eppes, and Dwayne McGarrahan.

The family wants to give particular thanks to her recent caregivers who include Martha Norris, Marsha Pace, Anissa Haynes, Cal, Leslie and Kia, as well as those at CHI St. Luke's Hospital and Pine Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. Thanks also to Dr. Jerry Wood for his dedicated and attentive care over the years, as well as all of her doctors.
