Obituary

As the sun rose Wednesday morning, March 2nd, 2011, E. Wayne Starr, 66, quietly slipped the confines of this world to meet the Son of God with his family at his side at St. Luke' Hospital in Houston, Texas. Wayne was born July 21st, 1944 in Pasadena, Texas to Bob & Ima Pinckard. Wayne grew up in Livingston, Texas where his love of horses and Western way of life fully developed. He graduated from Livingston High School in 1962 as Senior Class President.

Wayne attended Texas Tech University and the University of Houston before being drafted into the Army for service in Vietnam in 1966. He fought repelling the Tet Offensive, and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty.

Wayne found a career in real estate development, and went on to become the third largest commercial developer in Houston, Texas, He worked on over 9 million square feet of commercial development projects throughout the United States and in Libya, Nigeria and Ghana. He was a visionary in his field. One of his favorite quotes was from Sir Isaac Newton, ""If I have seen farther than others it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants.""

Later in life his love of the outdoors, the mountains, and all things Western drew him to Colorado. He served as an Elder for Grace Church of the Roaring Fork Valley in Basalt, Colorado where he fought tirelessly for the right to build a church in Pitkin County. He also served as a member of Gideon' International.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 46-years, Shirley Starr; son and daughter in law, Matthew and Zuzana Starr; daughter and son in law, Marla and Jayson Nowlen; grandsons, Wayne and Johnathan Starr; sister and brother in law, Beth and Gary Harris; brother and sister in law, Larry and Dean Pinckard; and a host of family and friends.
