Interment will follow at Holly Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 15, 2023from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Holly Grove Baptist Church, prior to service.
Eddie Reese Richardson was born on August 9, 1940 in Holly Grove, Texas to Charles Payton Richardson and Trudie Estelle (Spillers) Richardson. She passed away peacefully at her home in Segno, Texas on January 5, 2023. She was the youngest of seven children born to Payton and Trudie. She went to school at Holly Grove in her younger years and ultimately graduated from Big Sandy High School at the age of 16, having skipped the 2nd grade. Even though she was a younger graduate, she was Salutatorian of the Class of 1957.
On June 12, 1959, she married the love of her life, Billy Brackin, and they relocated to Jacksonville, Texas, so that he could attend Jacksonville Baptist College. She worked for the first two years to support them while he attained his education. Soon thereafter, they had a daughter, Vanessa Karene, and a son, David Royce. After a few years, they moved to Mexia, Texas. While there, Billy worked and continued his education. Soon after he earned his Master's Degree, Eddie enrolled at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She attended classes and studied while continuing her role as wife and mother. She graduated with a degree in Education, earning several academic honors, and achieving a 3.5 GPA. After graduation, she furthered her education by taking classes in Accounting.
After the family moved to Dayton, Texas, Eddie began working in the financial industry. She held positions in financial institutions and a government agency. She also worked for the TDCJ in various capacities, and for the County Auditor's Office in Liberty County. She had a real talent for working with numbers and people, and her dedication to her work in each of her jobs was exceptional.
Nothing was more important to her than her family. She was a loving wife to Billy, and a devoted and attentive mother to Vanessa and David. When her granddaughter, Amy, came along, she became a grandmother beyond compare. She was a devoted daughter, loving sister, wonderful friend, and an aunt of many nieces and nephews whom she loved as if they were her own.
Billy and Eddie moved back to Polk County in 2004, where they had many family members and friends. Eddie was an active member of Holly Grove Baptist Church and later Magnolia Hill Baptist Church, and had many dear and supportive friends at both churches. She had a beautiful alto voice and enjoyed singing with the Victory Singers, a multi-denominational group that sings the old hymns at nursing homes in the Livingston area.
Due to her illness, Eddie's family members provided countless hours of care for her, and Billy was rarely away from her side. Special thanks are given for her daughter-in-law, Shirley Brackin, who provided food, care, and attention to her as if she were her own mother.
Eddie is survived by her loving husband, Billy Brackin, of Segno; daughter, Vanessa Peveto and her fiancé Myles Beeching of New Braunfels; son, David Brackin and his wife Shirley Brackin of Segno; and granddaughter Amy Peveto and her husband Jonathon Brehm of Leander. She is also survived by her beloved brothers-in-law Forrest G. Brackin of Segno and Derwood "Red" Allen of Holly Grove, Texas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Brackin, Bruce Collins, Donnis Collins, Michael Richardson, Ronald Sexton, and Rusty Stephenson.
Honorary pallbearer will be Charles Morris.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Eddie consider making donations in her honor to the Harbor Hospice Foundation, 317 W. Church St., Suite 112, Livingston, TX 77351. The staff at Harbor provided professional skilled and loving care to Eddie at the end of her life, and the family is forever grateful to them.
