Funeral services for Emma Ermel Dahl age 93, of Livingston will be held Friday April 30, 2010 in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston with Pastor Bill Thompson officiating and interment to follow in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Livingston. Pallbearers will be John Paul Thompson, John Slocomb, John Haynes, Garvey Jackson, Eddie Martin and Ben R. Ogletree.
She was born September 2, 1916 in Regina Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of Martin Ermel and Christine Wesbrod Ermel and passed away April 27, 2010 in Livingston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband Melvert Dahl, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
In 1957 Emma joined the Pilot Club of Livingston and served as club president and on the Board of Directors numerous times. She housed the Pilot Club' Loan Closet for 40 years handling all sick room supplies, she prepared and served Christmas dinner to the local club and their families.
In 1960 Emma received an award from the auxiliary for chartering two units and for getting more new members than any other district president in the state of Texas. She baked cakes and bread to help raise funds for the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center that was a project of the Legion and the auxiliary. She participated in the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State for 53 years and received an award of recognition for her services.
She received the ""Polk Countian of the Year"" award in 1986 and the Hometown Spirit Award in 1994.
Emma served on the Youth Center Swimming Pool Board for 20 years. Emma has been making fruitcakes for many years and sending them to Cal Farley' Ranch. She received an award of appreciation from them.
Emma married Melvert Dahl on February 8, 1947 and together they helped organize the first Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, Polk County with membership of about 12 people. In 1980 the began making Braille books, which were shipped to the blind all over the world. Melvert passed away on December 28, 1994.
She is survived by her sister Katie Schulle of Caldwell, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
