Funeral services for Ernest Marlin Davis, 88, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas. Interment will follow in the Davis Family Cemetery in Polk County, Texas. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.
Mr. Davis was born December 22, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas, to parents, Ernest Marvin Davis and Josephine May (Hudson) Davis, and departed on January 4, 2018 in Houston, Texas to live in his father's mansions. He is preceded in death by his wife, Velma Dean Gage Davis; brother, Robert Duane Davis; and his parents.
He graduated from high school in Caldwell, Idaho, where he was editor of his high school paper and was member of the football, baseball and boxing teams. He served more than twenty years as a United States Marine during the Korean Conflict and was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Nay Commendation Medal with Combat V, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm for action against the Viet Cong and the North Vietnam Forces in the Northern I Corps sector. He was awarded the Marine Corps Commendation from the Commandant of the Marine Corps while serving at the Marine Barracks, U.S. Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia. During his Marine Corps Service he served in eight enlisted and four officer ranks. Marine Corps Service included playing and or coaching baseball, softball, football, basketball, and bowling teams. During his Marine Corps service he had duty in Guam Okinawa, Philippines, Japan, Spain, Portugal, Hawaii, Thailand, and the Aleutian Islands.
Upon his retirement from the Marine Corps, he was employed by Harris County, Houston, Texas for twenty three years. He served as the Assistant Chief Deputy of the District Clerks Criminal Division and Systems Division. He also served as the Assistant Court Manager of the County Criminal Courts at Law. He later served as the Director of the District Clerks Technical Division and as Chief Deputy. He graduated from San Jacinto College on the G.I. Bill. He was the principle designers and implementers of the Harris County Automated Criminal Justice System. Additionally, he was a past President of the Texas Criminal Justice Users Group and a past Chairperson of the Texas Association for Court Administration. He received the Justice Charles Barrow award for contributions to Court Administration in the State of Texas. Further, he was listed in Who's Who in local governments. He served over twenty years as the President of the Lake Livingston Estates Three in Livingston, Texas.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Lou Treich of San Diego, California; son, Ernest Duane Davis of Beaumont, Texas; brother, Randy Davis and Irmgard of Kingwood, Texas; sister, Renee Herdt and Gary of Caldwell, Idaho; and loving and very dedicated companion, Loretta Houpt; along with many loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers: Kevin Anderson, Jimmy Sciarillo, Brian Davis, Tony Smith, John Jones, Darryl Devillier.
