Funeral services for Etta B. Smith, 90, of Livingston, Texas will be held Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Oak Grove Church of Christ in Livingston, Texas with Stephen Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Camp Ruby Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2024, at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.

Etta passed away March 26, 2024 at the age of 90. She was born in West Tempe, TX on October 9th, 1933 to Stephen Buck and Nora Essie Townley. She is the youngest of 7 siblings. She attended West Tempe School until it was consolidated to Livingston ISD where she graduated. After High School she attended Sam Houston State University receiving degrees in Education and Library Science. She and Edwin D Smith married on June 24th 1960 and welcomed their only child Stephen Dennis in 1964.

Etta was a lifelong educator and Christian; teaching public school for 30+ years. She held offices with the Retired teacher association, Friends of the library and West Tempe cemetery board. She was active in the Oak Grove Church of Christ leading vacation Bible School, ladies bible studies, Sunday school and did outreach work for the World Bible Study. She dedicated her life to living in Christ, and was passionate about God's word spreading it in every opportunity.

Etta loved the quiet country life. She spent many hot summers helping with the hay field, tending vegetable gardens and up keeping her roses. She had an array of pets on the farm but her flock of hens and Thomas the cat held a place closest to her heart.

Etta has resounding love for her friends and family. She enjoyed attending the sports and events of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was committed to being a wife, mother, sister, sister in law, sister in Christ, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor.

Etta is proceeded in death by her parents Stephen Buck and Nora Essie Townley; Brother Talley, Sisters Faye and Bessie (Sis); husband Edwin Dennis Smith.

She is survived by her siblings Evelyn, Steve, and Rebecca (Becky); son Stephen Dennis Smith; Grandchildren Ashley and Dustin, Heather and Jake, Stephen and Shelbey. Great grandchildren Caden, Caitlin, Leon, Asa, and Noah.

Etta was a lot of thing to a lot of people; selfless and kind. Let her memory spur you to good deeds. The family wants to thank other family members, friends and loved ones for your support and love.
