IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fran
Goettee
November 9, 1927 – January 9, 2018
Memorial services for Fran Goettee, 90, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.
Frances Blankenship Edwards Goettee of Livingston, passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 at the age of 90. Fran is survived by her son, Terry Edwards, stepson Hudson Edwards and his wife Tammy, and daughter, Cheryl Edwards Holsey; four grandchildren, Terrence Edwards and his wife Hanna, Donald Edwards and his wife Kristen, Treanna Martinez and her husband Jesse, and Angel Fuentes; eight great grandchildren, and a great great granddaughter, as well as her beloved Chihuahua, Little Bit, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her husband of 57 years, Donald Wayne Goettee, infant daughter Carol Suzanne Edwards, stepdaughter Adalene Edwards Lamb, brother, J.W. Blankenship, half sister Opal Blankenship Ohnert, sister, Ruth Wallace, and her parents Frank and Ida Mae Blankenship.
Fran was a loving mother to her two stepchildren ages 3 and 4, when she married their father at age 17. She deeply regretted having to leave them after 7 years when the marriage ended. However, she did reconnect with them many years later, and had an especially warm relationship with Adalene. She moved to Texas for a fresh start with her young children from that marriage, Terry and Cheryl. There she met and married a good man, Don Goettee who welcomed her children as his own.
Fran was a bookkeeper for many years with various companies, a great cook, and a caring friend. She adored her children thinking them perfect. Even though she worked full time, while her children were younger, she always made time to sew her family's clothes, lend a helping hand to those in need, and make yummy oatmeal cookies, peanut brittle, cakes, and pies, among other specialties to share with family and friends. Drop-in guests were always warmly welcomed no matter the time and invited to share a meal or cup of coffee.
She and Don made a good team living in the Houston area for many years, then Muskogee, Oklahoma, before making their way to the Livingston area. After they both retired, they bought and sold houses, remodeling them, before moving on to the next project. They were both energetic and gregarious, staying busy whether they were traveling with their Good Sam's group, getting together with family and friends to play dominoes and cards or assisting others with projects when they needed help.
Fran adored her grandchildren informing them she was to be called "Grandmother." She was very involved in their upbringing, picking them up in San Antonio to spend summers with her and Grandpa. They had tea parties, read poetry, and shared her love of music, especially classical. The great grandchildren called her "GG" to her delight.
Her family and friends are comforted knowing she has gone to a better place.
The family requests in lieu of food, plants, or flowers, those who wish could donate to their favorite charity or the Livingston SPCA.
