Obituary

Funeral services for Frances Roberts Broemer age, 80 of Livingston, will be Saturday April 4, 2009 at 10:00am at the Indian Presbyterian Church with Bro. David Busby and Clem Sylestine officiating with interment to follow in the Midway Cemetery in Livingston. Pallbearers will be Sidney Poncho, Amon Sylestine, De Ray Pittman, Garrett Battise, Beaver Sylestine, Ben Thompson, Tommy Brakel and Jerry Brakel, Honorary Pallbearer will be Kirk Oredson.

Frances was born October 5, 1928 in Hamburg, Arkansas the daughter of Alton & Leona Caldwell Roberts and went home to be with her Jesus April 1, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Alton Bruce Roberts.

She attended Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1946, Trinity University in San Antonio in 1947, and Sull Ross State University in 1954. Frances married Walter W. Broemer in 1948 and was blessed with three children, Walter Robert in 1952, Cindy Anne in 1954 and William Fulton in 1964.

Frances was employed by the City of San Antonio Financial Department from 1946 until 1948, the City of Austin Finance Department from 1948 until 1949, the University of Texas-Bursars Office as Director of Services, Disabled and All Veterans and Foreign Students from 1949-1951, Secretary of H.E. Butt Foundation Camp from 1955-1957, Secretary for Sidney Smith, CPA, Livingston, Texas from 1963-1964, and Substitute Teacher for Livingston ISD from 1973 until 1975. She did much volunteer work and service to the Alabama-Coushatta Indians of Polk County, Texas from 1957 until the present as Director of the Indian Christian Children' Fund, was the first Girl Scout Leader for the girls of the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation from 1960 until 1970, she did Public Relations for new tourist business and assisted in many services such as driving an ambulance, school bus, she did banquets for dignitaries and groups from 1957 til 1976 and she organized and charted the Chief Kina Scholarship Committee, Inc. and served as a Board Member from 1980 until she passed away.

Frances served her county and community from 1960 until present, serving as Board Member, for the United Fund, Board Member for the Heritage Society, she established a Senior Citizen' Nutritional and Activities Program, Treasurer for Livingston Folks, Inc., President of Livingston ISD PTA, she was the Chairman-Social Concerns for the First Methodist Church, and Den Leader for the Cub Scouts, Secretary/Treasurer for Cub Scout Packs and many many other local programs.

Mrs. Broemer had a tremendous LOVE for the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Polk County, she had an Honorary Membership in the Indian Tribe for the many years of voluntary service and friendship which she received in 1989 and was Honored with Frances Broemer Day at the reservation in 1990, she also received the Polk County J.R. Maxwell Award for Preservation of History and Culture of Polk County, Texas in 1989.

Frances is survived by her husband of 60 and a half years, Walter B. Broemer, of Livingston, Walter R. Broemer, son of Nacogdoches, Texas, Fulton Broemer, son of Houston, Texas, Cindy & Kirk Oredson, daughter & son in law of Ft. Worth, Texas, Tom & Debra Brakel, grandson & wife, of Crowely, Texas, Jerry Brakel, grandson, Ashley Brakel, great granddaughter of Crowley, Texas and T.J. Brakel, great grandson, of Crowely, Texas.
