Obituary

Funeral services for Dr. Fred Grube Jr., 71, of Livingston, Texas were held on Monday, February 8, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. in the Central Baptist Church in Livingston, Texas with Rev. Mike Meadows officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.

Frederick William Grube, Jr. was born June 11, 1944 to parents Frederick William Grube, Sr. and Helen E. (Dickens) Grube in Norfolk, Virginia and died February 5, 2016 in Houston, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Pam Grube of Livingston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Ryan Hall of Dallas, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Andy Evans of Livingston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Fred, III and Odie Grube of Livingston, Texas; mother, Helen Grube, of Livingston, Texas; grandchildren, Maghen Haynes, Rob Beck, Caleb Evans, Colby Evans, Kirbie Evans, Payton Grube and Bolton Grube; great-grandchildren, Rylee Light and Adyson Light; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Larry Bolton of Tyler, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Tom Pinney of The Woodlands, Texas; nieces, Amy Brown and husband Mitch; Susan Hill and husband Mike; nephews, Travis Pinney, Ivan Pinney and wife Sarah; great-niece Hannah Hill; great-nephews, Hudson Hill and Garrett Brown; along with numerous other relatives and close friends.

Fred graduated from Grand Prairie High School where he lettered in water polo, swimming and diving. He earned a Bachelor Degree from Sam Houston State University where he was also a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He attended Baylor Dental School and received a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Dr. Grube was selected for rotation general dentistry internship in the United States Army and obtained the rank of Captain.

When Fred got out of the Army, he returned to Livingston and opened a dental practice, where he served the community for 30 years. He was a member of the Brazos Valley Dental Association, Leadership Livingston, Rotary Club, and Seattle Study Club.

Fred was a member of Central Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Royal Ambassador basketball coach. Fred combined his love for the outdoors and gospel outreach by helping start Lake Tomahawk Baptist Encampment. He served as a camp counselor there several summers. He went on numerous mission trips to the Rio Grande Valley as counselor and also for dental purposes.

Fred was an avid outdoorsman. The skills, knowledge and love for the outdoors that he learned as an Eagle Scout stayed with him his entire life. He even used his Eagle Scout skills when he worked at Six Flags as a paddler on the canoe ride.

Fred loved to hunt, fish and hike. After much preparation, he climbed to the top of Pikes Peak. His preparation for and climb on Pikes Peak was indicative of his life. Fred would set a goal for himself, and then work hard until he achieved it.

After retirement, Fred taught at Lonestar College, where he taught anatomy and Physiology where his students loved and respected him so much they honored him by taking him to dinner at the conclusion of the courses.

Pam and Fred moved to Estes Park, Colorado. Kirk Bein taught Fred to tie fishing flies. He became a fly fishing guide. He also volunteered in the Rocky Mountain National Park for an Elk monitoring program.

Fred Grube was a kind, compassionate man. He never met a stranger. He was the most generous person anybody would ever meet. He will be truly missed. The world is a much better place because of his life.
