Obituary

Memorial services for George Winfred Vannoy, 90, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Friday, January 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Livingston Church of Christ Church in Livingston, Texas with Lindell Mitchell officiating. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #8568.

George Winfred Vannoy was born on January 13, 1932 in Montalba, Texas and died in his home on January 14, 2022, one day after his 90th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Isaac Vannoy and Lula Mae Ward Vannoy; brother, Thomas Irvin Vannoy; and sister, Elsie Vannoy Grasty. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Shirley (Bacon) Vannoy; their three children, Gary Winfred Vannoy, Cathy Patranella and husband, Frank, and Pam Morgan and husband, Keith; eight grandchildren, Gared Vannoy and wife, Jennifer, Mendy Vannoy Fears and husband, Jeffery, Joey Patranella and wife, Cheryl, Jason Patranella and wife, Alecia, Jennifer Patranella Grimm and husband, Kevin, Kevin Morgan, Kelly Morgan Warner and husband, Klayton, and Kyle Morgan and wife, Lindy. He also had 20 great-grandchildren.

George was a veteran of the United States Air Force. During the Korean War, he served 2 years of active duty and 6 years in the Air Force Reserves. He was an instructor for the maintenance and repair of B-29 airplane engines and was an active member of the Polk County American Legion. He was a Mason for over 50 years. George served as President of the Chamber of Commerce in Polk County in 1983. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Affiliated Foods, covering 628 retail stores from 1984-1986. In 1985, he was awarded the President Award of Merit by Affiliated Foods. He received the Polk County Community Service Award in 1986.

Throughout his life, George was very active. He was a faithful member of the Livingston Church of Christ. He was a league bowler for over 30 years. George also loved to travel with his wife. Together they have visited all of the 50 states, as well as international travel to include China, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Canada, Honduras, Mexico and Guatemala. One of his greatest memories was walking on the Great Wall of China.

George was loved by so many and will always be remembered by his giving heart and his strong handshake.
