Obituary

Geraldine "Gerry" Threadgill, 79, of Livingston, Texas died on July 6, 2019. She was born October 26, 1939 in Harris County to parents, Floyd Threadgill and Ella (Pampell) Threadgill.

Gerry grew up on a farm in Dime Box, Texas, and the most important relationship in her life was that of her mother. She was known and will be remembered as a devoted friend and a beautiful spirit whom was always full of laughter and sincere kindness. She was also a lover of animals; especially her cats, Copper and Lucy, and her faithful lap-dogs, Mona Lisa and Duncan.

Gerry's daily life on Lake Livingston was filled by caring for her pristine yard, visiting with friends and neighbors, and reveling in the occasional friendly game of poker.

She was a very easy person to talk to. This could be seen as she reminisced and shared stories of her youth and her passion for becoming a nurse. Geraldine Threadgill, Captain, RN, 12th AF EVAC Cam Ranh Bay VN (Supervisor Surgical/Psychiatric Ward), loved helping others, even if it meant putting herself in harm's way.

Throughout Gerry's career, her uncommon spirit and passion was evident in the work that she performed at Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, VA Hospital in Los Angeles, California and also in Houston, Texas, and at the Memorial Medical Hospital in Livingston, Texas. During the 1970's, Gerry worked for Maxwell House as an Industrial Nurse and Administrator. She found fulfillment in the 1980's working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Her initial assignment was as the first RN at the Ellis unit to convert an old "medical program" into a twentieth century health care system. During her tenure at TDCJ, she held numerous positions culminating as Director of Nursing throughout the UTMB/TDCJ system.

Gerry is survived by her friend of 31 years, Sharon Pickett Gavin; the entire Pickett family; and numerous loving friends.

She was a very generous contributor to her favorite charities. Your donation to the charity of your choice would honor her memory.
