Gladys Allen Matthews Stegent
Gladys went home on April 12 at the age of 87 with family at her side. She was born on May 25, 1923 in Trinity, TX, to A. B. Allen and Lula (Rhodes) Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doyle Matthews, and second husband M. Stegent. Doyle and Gladys made Highland Hills their home for many years before retiring to Ace, Texas. Gladys is survived by her children Doyle Wesley Matthews (Delphia) Brenda Matthews Sueltenfuss (Don), Rhonda Matthews Daniel (Gene), and Glenn Allen Matthews (Karen). She is also survived by grandchildren, Gene Norman, Amy Norman, Lori Powell (Russell), Matthew Powers (Katy) , Ryann Matthews, Seann Matthews, and great-grandchildren Peyton Powell, Alia Powers and due on April 21, Miria Powers. She was a special Nana to Wesley James Varnel, Chrystal Varnel, Gina Gotschall (Russell), Nolan Daniel (Priya), Travis Brackin (Maegan), Shelley Garland (Chad), Luke Gotschall, Lydia Gotschall, Kaylee Daniel, Grace Daniel and Genevieve Daniel. She is also survived by one sister, Abby Munson of Houston, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas, with interment following a Jones Prairie Cemetery in Leggett, Texas.
Pallbearers were Russell Powell, Wesley James Varnel, James Tullos, Matthew Powers, Gene Norman, Chad Garland, Ryann Matthews and Seann Matthews.
