Greg Wilkinson, 72, of Rusk, left this life to be with Jesus on September 2nd, 2014, in Tyler, Texas. Funeral services will be Friday, September 5th, 2014 at 2 pm at Gallatin Missionary Baptist Church in Gallatin, Texas with Rev. Don Copeland and Bro. Robin Parsons officiating. The family visitation will also be at Gallatin MBC, on Thursday evening, September 4th, from 5-7 pm. Graveside services will be at Lowes Chapel Cemetery on Bagley road near Rusk.
Born on July 15, 1942, in Livingston, Greg was the son of Carnie Gregory Wilkinson and Nettie (Murry) Wilkinson. He married Martha Evelyn Hancock, in Rusk on September 16, 1961, and they moved to Houston. They raised two daughters, Beverly and Brenda, in Houston, Huntsville and Rusk. He was a member of Gallatin Missionary Baptist, although he had served as deacon and adult Sunday School teacher of Memorial Missionary Baptist in Rusk for many years. He was named national salesman of the year for Pitney Bowes numerous times. He also retired from Rusk State Hospital. He loved farming and ranching and enjoyed operating heavy machinery. He is preceded in death by Martha Hancock Wilkinson, his wife of 52 years, and his brother, Billy Gerald Wilkinson of Livingston.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Robin Parsons of Gallatin and Brenda and John Thigpen of Rusk; granddaughters and husbands, Kathryn and Joe Jones of Timpson, Kristen and Kody Killion of Rusk, Sarah and Joshua Rutherford of Columbia, OH, and Samantha Jo and Lane Childress of Sulphur, LA; grandsons, Joshua Parsons of Gallatin, Greg Rempfer of Columbia, OH, and Anthony Thigpen of Jacksonville; great-grandchildren, Klaira Grace Jones of Timpson, Kayleigh Jo Jones of Timpson, Logan James Childress of Sulphur, LA; sister, Wanda Williams of Kingwood; sister and husband, Sue and Ernie Rush of Kingwood; sister-in-law and husband, Shirley Wilkinson and Mike Johnson of Coldspring; cousin and wife, Roy Wilkinson and Marlene of Rusk; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joshua Parsons of Gallatin, Greg Rempfer of Columbus, Ohio, Joe Jones of Timpson; Kody Killion of Rusk; Anthony Thigpen of Jacksonville, Joshua Rutherford of Columbus, Ohio, and nephews: Quinn Alexander of Kingwood, Cody Evans of Beaumont, Kevin Hall of Kingsland, Billy Shane Wilkinson of Corrigan, and Lesly Wilkinson of Corrigan; and also Roy Wilkinson of Rusk, Mychal Parker of Chandler, and Bill Smith of Rusk.
