Obituary

Our beloved mother, ""Happy"" Mary Glenn Parkhill, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 85. She was born to Ann and Will Hadaway in Kosse, Texas on September 16, 1922.

Services were held Saturday July 19, 2008 at 1:00pm with the Rev. James Frazier officiating. Burial followed in Restland Memorial Park.

Mary received her nickname ?ÇÿHappy?ÇÖ at an early age. She wore a hat and a smile resembling a character in a 1900' Comic strip, Happy Hooligan, and was soon called ?ÇÿHappy?ÇÖ. The name stuck her whole life. Her friends and family will vouch that she ?Çÿalmost?ÇÖ always lived up to this name. Her nurturing and loving spirit enriched the lives of all who knew her.

After graduating high school, she attended college for one year, then headed to Bryan to start her career (and find a husband). In Bryan, she met and married the love of her life and best friend, Kenneth Ray Parkhill, in August of 1947. They moved to Livingston, Texas in the summer of 1951 where she and her husband raised their three children and enjoyed their many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends for the next 57 years.

Happy was a devoted daughter, sister, housewife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent many hours working alongside her husband building his Veterinary practice. As a tireless volunteer with First United Methodist Church and the Polk County Mission, one could depend on her dynamic energy and organization skills. She was an avid Bridge player and a member of many Bridge clubs in Livingston where she was always ready for another great round, ""Bring on those cards and where' the dessert."" An avid reader, cook, artist, walker, and world traveler, Happy was energetic and ready for adventure her entire life. Most importantly, she leaves children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with love and inspiration for carrying on those Christian values that will always be cherished.

Happy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray Parkhill, her sister and brother-in-law, Jo Ann and Wayne Smith, her brother-in-law Charles Caskey, her son-in-law, Bruce Van Wagner, and her granddaughter, Melody Simmons. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David Parkhill and Molly of Austin, Texas; her daughter, Cindy Van Wagner of Georgetown, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Missy Parkhill and Scott Simmons of Austin, Texas; sister, Doris Caskey of Bremond, Texas; brother John Hadaway and wife Patsy of Boerne, Texas; sister-in-law Janis Stansell and husband, Jim of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Kenneth Parkhill and wife Charlotte of Wilmette, Illinois; Homer Parkhill and wife Katrina of New Canaan, Connecticut; Stephanie Slater and husband Chris Zoch of Manor, Texas; Angelica Gradick and husband, Jacob of Killeen, Texas; Travis Slater and wife Heather Casillas of Allen, Texas; Krissy Gagliardi and husband, David of New York, New York; Holly Simmons of Austin, Texas, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank The Christopher House in Austin for their loving and tender care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer' Association, Hospice Austin, the America Heart Association, or the First United Methodist Church of Livingston, Texas.
