Obituary

Jack Raymond Nettles 78 of Livingston passed away Tuesday September 2, 2008 in Houston. Funeral services were held Friday September 5, 2008 in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Lindell Mitchell officiating. Burial followed at Peebles Cemetery, with Military Honors given by VFW Post #8568. Visitation was held Thursday September 4, 2008 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM also at Cochran Funeral Home.

Jack was born Thursday July 17, 1930 in Livingston to parents John ""Jack"" and Katie Maze Nettles. He graduated from Livingston High School in 1948 and went on to attend Southwest Texas State University on a basket ball scholarship. In 1952 he joined the United States Marines and served in the Korean War until 1954. During his time in the Marines he recieved several medals for his service, the United Nations Medal, South Korean Medal, and the Eisenhower Medal. He also was one out of 6 Honor Guards for the prisoner exchange in Freedom Village in Korea. Jack then married his wife of 41 years Rita Lynch Nettles on April 29, 1967 in the Deer Park Church of Christ. He was also a 32nd degree Master Mason in the Deer Park Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jewell Loree Nettles, and his brother Glenn Roy Nettles.

He is survived by his beloved wife Rita Lynch Nettles of Livingston, daughter Laura Ausburn and husband Jerry of Livingston, and his grandaughters Abby and Emily Ausburn of Livingston. He is also survived by his brothers Alvis Nettles and wife Mary of Livingston, Wilson Nettles of Livingston, Earl Nettles and wife Novie of Livingston, Elmer Nettles and wife Hilda of Livingston, Floyd Nettles and wife Margie of Deerpark, and Kenneth Nettles and wife Frances of Baytown, and sisters Faye Hamilton and husband Bob of Spring, Dene Courtney and husband Lee of Chicago, IL, and Bettie Paredes and husband Pablo of Livingston.

Serving as pallbearers were Neal Nettles, Jared Nettles, Matthew Nettles, Dewayne Oates, Mike Nettles, Scott Nettles, Lance Nettles, and Mark Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Kingsland, Chuck Roan, Pete Rendina, John Kane and Norman Rector.
