Obit for Jackie DeShazo
Jackie DeShazo, 76 of Leggett, TX, ascended to heaven on April 1st, 2012 after a long hard fought battle with lung cancer.
Jackie was born on September 23, 1935, in Huttig, Arkansas to J.B. and Nina DeShazo. He was one of four children, Jimmy DeShazo, Charles DeShazo and Annette Holk. On November 17, 1955, Jackie married the love of his life, Wanda Tharp. The couple had four children as well. David, Janice, Sherry and Diana. He was a self-made man who worked hard and poured everything into his family. He moved to the area in 1974 and owned Jackie' Oilfield Service for twenty-six years. Jackie was a deacon and song leader at Jones Prairie Baptist Church.
He was the cornerstone of his family; always supporting, encouraging and teaching them. He was a strong man with a big personality that was always ready to help someone in need. Jackie loved his family and would do anything for them. He had a soft spot for children and enjoyed watching them laugh and play. Jackie loved God and he demonstrated God' love through his giving nature. He raised Brahmas on his ranch and boarded bees on his land. He truly enjoyed working his land with his grandsons.
Jackie is survived by wife, Wanda DeShazo; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Robert Koether, Sherry and Craig Reese, and Diana and Mike Kelm; grandsons, Albert Koether, Corey Koether, Karl Koether, Zachary Willson, Craig Reese, Jr., Kyle Kelm; granddaughter, Kallie Kelm and great granddaughter, Rebecca Simmons, brother, Jimmy ""Babe"" Deshazo, brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Teresa Tharp and Tommy and Sue Smith; and mother-in-law Virginia Tharp. He was preceded in ascension by his son, David DeShazo and his parents, J.B. and Nina DeShazo.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, TX. Bro. Royce Pennington and Bro. Dean Boyd will conduct the services. Interment will follow the chapel service at Jones Prairie Cemetery in Leggett, TX. Pallbearers are: Forest Smith, Johnny Simons, Albert Koether, Corey Koether, Kyle Kelm, Mike DeShazo, Karl Koether and Zachary Willson. Honorary pallbearers are: C. T. Jones, Ward Jones, Earl Abbott, Pete Barker, Don Hennig, Craig Reese, Jr., Ricky Thigpen, Joe Crawford, Speedy Parrish, Jeremy Tharp and Bro. Glen Price.
