Mr. Bass was born on November 27, 1939 in Trawick, Texas and passed away on April 23, 2014 in Onalaska, Texas. He was a family man who loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also loved hunting and telling stories. He came to be known as the "neighborhood watch dog" because he loved being outside and sitting on his porch. He worked in commercial construction during his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Helen (Emerson) Bass; son, James Luster Bass; and sisters, Roberta Johnson, Hazel McBride, and Anna Lou Rawlinson.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Bass of Onalaska, Texas; daughters, Susan and husband, Gary Cain of Moss Hill, Texas, Vita and husband, Bobby Baker of Onalaska, Texas, and Rita Bass of Onalaska, Texas; son, Thomas Bass of Porter, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Cain, Mike Cain, B.J. Baker, Becky Sparks, Thomas Lynn Bass, Rachel Bass, and Ben Bass; great-grandchildren, Brittni Jennings, Keegan Kight, McKenzie Cain, Samantha Cain, Ethan Kight, Emily Cain, James Cain, Laura Sparks, Graham Sparks, Owen Bass, and Tristan Bass; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Mr. Bass will be escorted to his grave by pallbearers, Chris Cain, Mike Cain, B.J. Baker, Ben Bass, Devon Sparks, Mark Whittaker, and Thomas Lynn Bass.
