Obituary

James Greer Bergman was born February 2, 1944 in Livingston Texas during the midst of World War II to Dr. Sol Bergman and Ola Love Bergman, he passed away at his home in Goodrich surrounded by his family on September 23, 2023 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

James was a member of the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Unit 7, for many years and was instrumental in better communications for the Department. In their younger years James and Corky Cochran built a tower on Bergman Hill to better accommodate the needs of the Department, with Corky being the ground man and James the tower hand. The original text message was created with a note pad, James throwing "Text messages" from his note pad off the tower to Corky with instructions. Even after retirement, James' heart never wavered from the fire department. He continued to support the department with many communication improvements. In later years, he could be seen many times, in his red pickup, with amber flashing lights, setting up cones for traffic control at major accident scenes. He loved electronics and from the first tower he went on to build many towers to serve government and local entities. To say he loved electronics was an understatement. His mother was afraid to enter his room for fear of being electrocuted.

During his lifetime James served on the board of directors for the Livingston Hospital, Polk County Youth Rodeo Association, and served on the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department for many years he was an EMT and loved helping others in time of need, a trait that he inherited from His father and both grandfathers who all were local doctors.

His other loves were oil and gas exploration and aviation. He built and supervised many locations in the Damascus field North of Corrigan and numerous other places. He obtained a pilot's license in 1978 and flying became his passion.

James loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Sol Bergman; mother, Ola Love Bergman; and daughter, Candy Bergman.

James is survived by his wife, Jullie Bergman, son, Dandy Bergman and wife Karen Bergman; daughters, Tracey Scasta and husband Craig Scasta, and Molly Bergman and Chris Allemang; grandchildren, J.L. Bergman and Remi Lawrence, Jagger Bergman, Jep Bergman, Candice Moore, Lilli DeFord, Drew DeFord, Hallie Palmer and husband Landon, and Rebecca Scasta.
