Memorial services for James "Sonny" Bruce Hatton, 83, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Pat Cummings officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 20, 2020, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., before the service begins.
Sonny was born March 15, 1937 in Salem, Texas to Amos Hatton and Inez (Cody) Hatton and passed away August16, 2020 in Livingston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia N. Hatton, parents, one brother, one sister, and one great granddaughter.
He graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1955. He then furthered his education at Kilgore Junior College, Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, and obtained his master's degree at Prairie View A&M. He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting with family.
Sonny was an accomplished athlete and was All State in track, baseball, basketball, and football and received two college scholarships through football and basketball. He was a coach for Livingston (LISD) from 1967 - 1977, district manager for Farmers Insurance, and a member of the President's Council in Waco, Texas from 1977 until retirement. He continued to be an avid sportsman in golf, fishing, and hunting. Along with being a loyal fan of the Baylor Bears and SFA Lumberjacks.
He is survived by his daughter, Georganne Hatton Davis and spouse Rick; son, Michael Hatton and spouse Janet; grandchildren, Chris Hatton and spouse Kristi, Casey Hatton Ortega and spouse Tony, Nick Hatton and spouse Taylor, Jennifer Martinez and spouse Ashcon, and Jeremy Valderez; 14 great grandchildren; and sister, Polly Williams of Huttig, Arkansas; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
