"Jimmy" Phillips
January 25, 1928 – April 1, 2014
James Wallace (Jimmy) Phillips of Livingston, Texas died April 1, 2014. He was born to Wallace W. Phillips and Jessie Falloure Phillips on January 25, 1928 in Liberty, Texas.
He was a graduate of West Colombia High School, Schreiner Institute, and the University of Houston.
He was in the United States Air Force for three years, eight months, eleven hours and fifteen minutes obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant with a tour of duty in Korea.
He was employed by Wilson Industries for twenty two years as office manager, store manager, salesman, and international sales residing in Tripoli, Libya in time for the revolution and finally in Aberdeen, Scotland for four and a half years. He was later employed by the Cabot Corporation (IRI International) for six years and with Jackson's Industrial Supplies for six years. While selling oilfield supplies and drilling rigs he traveled extensively in Europe, Russia and the Middle East.
He was a member of Nomads, and the Livingston Lions Club where he was a greeter for several years. As a member of the First United Methodist Church he was involved in the Finance and served many years as the Treasurer of the church.
His survivors include his wife of sixty three years, Byrne Morrison Phillips; a son, James Wallace Phillips Jr. and his wife Sandra Ballard Phillips; a daughter, Amy Byrne Phillips; grandchildren, Amanda Phillips and son, Scout (great grandson), and Wayne Wallace Phillips. He is also survived by his sister, Elmira Phillips Finken and husband Robert E. Finken, their sons, John, Bobby, and Paul Finken and their children.
Pallbearers are four former golfing friends, Bob Cook, George Hollenbeck, Sam Gordon, Johnny Sutton and friends, Joe Day and Isaac Alexander. The Livingston Lions Club will be honorary pallbearers.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Livingston, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with the Senior Pastor Steve Woody and Pastor Emeritus James Frazier presiding. There will be a private family burial at Moscow, Texas.
In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to the First United Methodist Church Endowment or a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be a Cochran Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014.
