Funeral services for James J. ""Buddy"" Purvis age 78 of Corrigan, Texas will be held Saturday January 16, 2010 at 10:00AM at the First Baptist Church in Corrigan with Rev. Leslie Wilkerson and Rev. Phil Corbert officiating interment will follow in the Holhousen-Darby Cemetery in Moscow, Texas. Pallbearers will be Charlie Jay Locke, Billy Sam Locke, Mason Locke, Chaz Locke, Edmond Purvis, Michael Lockhart and David Reed. Honorary Pallbearers Bob Willis, Mark Dykes, All Precinct 3 employees present and past, Pamela Dial, Randy Wilson, John Saxon, Lynwood Short, George Turner, Cloyce Reinhart and Larry Whitworth.
He was born June 16, 1931 in Pluck, Texas the son of Edmond Byrd Purvis and Doris Whitehead Purvis and passed away January 13, 2010 in Lufkin, Texas.
Buddy served in 3 branches of Military, Army, Air Force and Marines and served in Korea, he was Pct #3 Constable, he worked for the Polk County Sheriff' Department, he was the first Police Chief in Corrigan, a former member of the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, and was the Commissioner of Precinct #3 for 32years. He was a rancher, a member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the VFW, he was Polk Countian Of The Year for 2005, he made the first motion for the County to go with Memorial Health Care Systems, he was instrumental in bringing the sub courthouse to Corrigan as well as being instrumental in the development of the Corrigan Nursing Home.
Buddy was a man who love believed in God, loved his country, his county, his constituents of Pct #3 and his family and friends. Buddy will be remembered by his friends and family as a man who lived a colorful life, and enjoyed life to the fullest.
He is survived by his wife Terri Purvis of Corrigan, Texas, Milton & Carla Purvis, son and daughter in law of Corrigan, Texas, Lee Nan Purvis, daughter of Corrigan, Texas, Milton Byrd Purvis, Jr., grandson of Corrigan, James Duncan ""Jay"" Purvis, grandson of Corrigan, Cleo ""Pee Wee"" Purvis, brother of Corrigan, John & Jan Purvis, brother and sister in law of Corrigan, Johnnie Byrd Thomas, sister of Corrigan, Mary & Billy Fisher, sister and brother in law of Corrigan, Sandra Purvis, sister of Corrigan, Randy Wilson, brother in law of Seabrook, Texas, Molly Locke, sister in law of Corrigan and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Charlene Purvis Memorial Scholarship Fund & Hospice In The Pines of Lufkin, Texas.
