A celebration for James Trumon, "J.T." Grimes will be held at the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., with Bro. Kevan Wood officiating. Graveside service will follow at the Peebles Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
James Trumon, "J.T." Grimes was born September 9, 1925, in Woodville, Texas, and passed away at the age of 97 on March 24, 2023, at his residence in Goodrich, Texas. J.T. is the son of the late Charlie William Grimes and Bessie Kirkland Grimes. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Oliver Charles. "O.C." Grimes; sister, Adele G. Brown; daughters-in-law, Sharon Sanders Grimes and Sharon Cox.
J.T. is survived by his wife, June M. Grimes of Goodrich, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Ron Grimes and Linda of Richmond, Texas, Thomas Cox and Judy, Anthony E. Cox and Debbie, all of Goodrich, Texas; daughter, Donna Cox also of Goodrich, Texas; grandchildren, John Grimes, Cortney Cox, and Lance; Bryan Cox and Samantha, Steven Cox, Darren Cox, Nathan Cox and Alexandra, Tracy Pritchard, Tami Simmonds, Teri Dollar, Anthony A. Cox and Juli, Trey Cox and Michelle, and Justen Fuller; 18 great -grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He graduated from high school in Woodville, Texas in 1943. Following graduation, on his 18th birthday, September 9, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army to serve his country overseas during World War II. He was also a valued member of the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department from May, 1960 to February, 1964, serving as Lieutenant in 1961. J.T. attended Texas A&M Fire School from 1962 to 1963.
J.T. and June were married on February 4, 1967, in Livingston, Texas where they made their home, later moving to Goodrich in about 1981. They have been longtime members of The First Baptist Church of Livingston where they served for many, many years. In 1989, after 35 years of employment, he retired from Sam Houston Electric Co-op in Livingston, Texas.
The family wishes to extend a special and sincere thank you to caregivers, Crystal Gann and Pam Boykin, the Veterans Administration Home Based Primary Care, and The Olive Branch Hospice of Jasper, Texas,
