Funeral Services for Janet Holbert Nelson, age 73 of Livingston will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Soda Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Bickley and Gene Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Sandy Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Holbert, Mark Holbert, Jack Holbert, Cade Patterson, Shawn Nelson, and Justin Hindsman. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Nelson, Anthony Hendrix, Matt Hendrix, Ronnie Hindsman, Tim Hindsman, Ben Hindsman, Kenneth Dillon, Dave Harrell, and Brian Fraquhar. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM-9:00 PM at the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston.
Janet was a college graduate from the University of Houston and from there on in life went on to become a teacher. She loved kids and she was an avid teacher of all sports but she specialized in Physical Education and was employed with the Alvin I.S.D. for 32 years. She was member of the Alvin Republican Party and a lifetime member of the NRA. She was also a member of the Texas Rifle Association and from 1956-1957 she was the Diving Champion for the City of Houston. She also had a chance to be on the LPGA Tour.
She was born on April 1, 1939 in Houston, Texas the daughter of Marvin L. Holbert and Marian A. (Boylan) Holbert and passed away on May 17, 2012 in Humble. Janet is survived by her husband of 38 years and 3 months, Gene Nelson, of Livingston, Texas; son, David D. Nelson of Brownstown, Michigan; daughters, Lynda Dugan and Sharon Smith, both, of Jacksonville, Florida; brother, Jim Nathan Holbert of Silsbee, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two special loves of her life, grandsons, David D. Nelson, Jr. in the Navy and Charles Jacob Nelson in the Army; sisters-in-law, Ann Brasher and husband, Lonell Brasher and Ginger Hendrix; brother-in-law, Dr. Jimmy Nelson of Metroplis, Illinois; special nieces and nephews, Ronnie Hindsman and wife, Ann, Tim Hindsman and wife, Julie, Ben Hindsman and wife, Stacy, Anthony Hendrix and wife, Becky, Matt Hendrix and wife, Alicia, and Angie Hendrix and Little Bryce; cousins, Carolyn Dermott of Sugarland, Texas, Susan Ivory of New York, and JoAnn Ivory of Baltimore, Maryland; special friends, Mike and Barbara Nelson of Alvin, Texas; special children and friends of Soda Loop West, Isabel McBride and Annie Wood. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
