Memorial services for Jean Peebles Maxwell, 102, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Central Baptist Church in Livingston, Texas.

Jean Peebles Maxwell passed away peacefully in her own home on December 26, 2019.  She had reached the age of 102.  Jean was born July 29, 1917 in Livingston, Texas, the second daughter of Wiley and Addelle Peebles.  After graduating from Livingston High School, she worked at the First National Bank before marrying James Rollin (Max) Maxwell on June 19, 1938, in the Peebles home.

Most of their married life was spent in Houston where they raised their children, James Michael and Ann Rollin.  Jean was a dedicated mother and homemaker who always enjoyed having friends and relatives in her home.   Her special gift of hospitality was exhibited even until the last months of her life, hosting recent Christmas celebrations for relatives.  Nothing made her happier than planning a menu, preparing a meal, and enjoying conversations around the dinner table.

She lived a life of service to others through her church activities, her volunteerism at the Houston VA Hospital during the Viet Nam War, and continued this tradition at the Livingston Memorial Hospital after she and Max retired to this area.  At that time, she began her own antique business and enjoyed travelling to buy merchandise for her shop.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Max, her son Mike, and her brother Allen Peebles.  She is survived by her daughter Ann Maxwell Looney and husband Gary, sisters Nell Wilkerson, Ruth Peebles and Ann Cunningham (Harold), and four grandchildren – Cliff Maxwell (Melissa), Marilyn Maxwell, Shannon Robertson (Andy), and Sean Looney (Britt).  Jean was also loved by her six great grandchildren-Christopher, Caitlin, Brianna, Rhylan, Lucas and Nicolas and numerous nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Manna Fest Food Pantry in Livingston or the PTSD Foundation of America/Camp Hope organization in Houston.
