Jerry Allen Chain
July 16, 1929 – October 9, 2013

Jerry Allen Chain, age 84, died on October 9, 2013 at his home in Livingston, Texas. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Mardis Neil Chain and Ruby Gertrude Boimare-Chain. Jerry spent his early years in Destrahan, Louisiana and moved to Texas City, Texas in 1933. He was a junior in high school in April 1947, when the disastrous Texas City explosion occurred; an event he never forgot. He attended many reunions in Texas City throughout the years. He was a fine athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball during those early years. He attended LSU and McNeese University on a football scholarship. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Agriculture. After graduation, he fulfilled his ROTC commitment for a period of two years active duty in Company L, Infantry Regiment as a 1st Lieutenant. During this time he married his high school sweetheart, Jo Inns. They had five children, Daniel Allen Chain, Thomas Michael Chain, Sue Ann Chain-Scazzero, James Mardis Chain and Nancy Jo Chain-Robinson.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Lynn Hebert-Chain, his sons, Tommy Chain and daughter-in-law, Mary Chain, and Jimmy Chain; his daughters, SueAnn Scazzero and her husband Tony and Nancy Robinson and her husband John; He is survived by seven grandchildren, Timmy Chain, Billy, Anthony, and Jenny Scazzero, Nathan, Melissa, and Jered Chain; and five great-grandchildren.
Jerry enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially his favorite, duck hunting. He was an excellent golfer, playing from five years old in Texas City. He was pro during the 50's at the Texas City Golf Course, and manager/pro of Mustang Creek Country Club, Ganada, Texas from 1960-61. He was a member of Waterwood Country Club, Huntsville, Texas for 18 years. He won the club championship eight times, 5 of those in a row with a handicap never above 3. and once even a minus one, plus he made four "holes in one," while at Waterwood.
In 1952, Jerry's dad purchased 291 acres on the outskirts of Livingston, Texas. The idea was to raise cattle. Later, when the Livingston Lake and dam were built, much of that land became waterfront property and in 1969, Jerry's entrepreneurial efforts produced what is now known as "Pinwah Pines Subdivision," a lovely place of rolling scenic terrain, with beautiful lake views, that is prosperous and still growing today. The highest point of elevation on the lake is located in Pinwah Pines. During these years, Jerry was the Administrator of the Polk County Environmental Services until his retirement in 1990.
Jerry never lost contact with old friends and over the years made many more, all who will miss him dearly.
